HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO RUN ONE OR MORE CARS?
Lots of families still own a car even though maintenance costs can be astronomical.
But how much does the average motorist spend on his or her car?
A survey carried out recently by Facile.it in 2015 shows that owning a family car costs far more that basic necessities do.
For the average Italian family, the financial cost of running a car represents 25% of their total annual income, a lot more than the 19% they spend on basic essentials.
UNEXPECTED ADDITIONAL EXPENSES INVOLVED IN RUNNING A CAR
The 2015 survey by Facile.it reveals that a Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel, driven by a
householder approximately 40 years old and covering around 15,000 kilometres annually, costs on average €3741 every year.
This figure includes insurance, vehicle licence fee, fuel, repairs, maintenance and new tyres, but doesn’t include a number of other elements that can seriously increase the average cost of running the car – unexpected events.
Road accidents, theft, adverse weather conditions, vandalism, unscheduled maintenance, etc., all these annoying eventualities can more than double the average cost of running a vehicle.

FINANCIAL IMPACT ON THE FAMILY

Most families couldn’t manage without their car for their everyday routine, and are forced to cut down on a family budget that’s already very tight.
According to a survey by Codacons, Italian families can spend up to 25% of their annual income on running a car;
a much higher percentage than the 19% they spend on basic essentials.
In these difficult economic times, we asked ourselves two questions:
- IA THERE ANY WAY TO CHANGE WHAT FAMILIES PAY?
- CAN WE REDUCE THE COSTS FOR FAMILIES IN REAL TERMS?
